Thanksgiving 2009

Thanksgiving 2009 was pretty uneventful, but a lot of fun! We spent Thanksgiving day at the Kalvin/Yelkens and Thanksgiving eve and Black Friday at the May's house. Below are some pics from the Kalvin/Yelken feast. In a little while I'll post some video from the May family thanksgiving.

LJ's First Plane Ride & Jere's Wedding

We had a great weekend in Maryland for Jere, Tim's brother's wedding. We left Thursday evening and LJ experienced his first plane ride...It was, well, an event:) I felt like we'd never traveled by plane before. Security was a fun experience and we held up the line as we unpacked our shoes, coats, etc. Lucky for us, the guy behind us had 4 boys and said it was no problem. LJ loved the plane, but was restless the last 15 minutes. Since our flight was delayed by the time we landed it was way past his bedtime and oh, you could tell! We made it to our hotel and we were happy to put an exhausted LJ to bed. The plane ride home was much better - it helps when you are up at 3AM and he gets up with you. By the time our 6:45 AM flight rolled onto the runway for take-off he was out like a light!

Jere and Laura's wedding was beautiful and we had a great time blending the old and new family, as well as seeing relatives and friends we haven't seen since our wedding. LJ was a huge hit and looked quite spiffy in his "nice" clothes. We don't have many reasons to get dressed up so I assured the daycare I'd be sending him in a few outfits so they could see him. I don't have a ton of pics, but as soon as I get some from Judy and Dore (Tim's parents) I'll post them...or if I can get him to sit still, I'll take some pics of him in the outfits before he leaves for daycare in the morning.

One of my favorite moments of the trip was LJ's discovery of "cake". He was so excited to bring me "cake" our first morning at the hotel - "Momma, cake!" The cake was actually a muffin, but from that point forward muffins became "cake". LJ must've felt very fortunate because he had "cake" for breakfast and then at night he had cake for dessert too! I have bought muffin mix so now he can have "cake" on Saturday mornings.

LJ's School Picture

This was LJ's school picture...I don't even remember knowing about it, thus the outfit and hair! I will have some great photos (hopefully!) from Jere's wedding (Tim's brother) in Maryland this upcoming weekend. LJ is going to look fantastic and yes, he's had a haircut!

Drummer Boy

LJ's birthday is just around the corner. I can't believe he's going to be 2!!! It's been a crazy time around the May house. Lots of chaos, but in the midst, we've been seeing God move in an unbelievable way! I can't wait to share the stories with people. God's been speaking a lot to me personally about passions I've had since I was little (aunts & uncles you should know what those passions are). Anyways, God's opened some doors for me and I can't wait to see where it goes. I've got to keep it under wraps for now, but hopefully by the end of August I'll have some awesome news to share!! No matter what happens I'm confident these doors are opening for a reason.

For some laughs, check out this video below of LJ playing drums with Phil Collins & band:)

LJ & the Trampoline

Our neighbors, Gary and DeAnna, have a trampoline for their kids. LJ loves jumping on the trampoline...and it feels safer to me than having him jump on the bed:) (There are nets!) I'm trying to test out Tim's iMovie application on his Mac, so bear with us as you watch the video...it's pretty rough, but I had fun! Hope everyone is doing well. Tim and I had a blast in San Francisco and Napa/Sonoma. We went up for a week in late April and toured wineries and the city. We can't wait to go back!!

Remember that time we went on vacation and I left...

Don't you love those stories that start with "Remember that time?"

Tim and I arrived back in Georgia late last night. We stopped for a quick bite to eat and then went to pick up LJ. Just as we were pulling up to the house, LJ awoke from a night terror. By the time we got back to our house he was still awake enough to call out, "Daddy!" to Tim (no "Mommy" of course:) and then finally fall back asleep as we put him to bed. I'd been stressing about going back to work and so Tim told me to get ready for bed and then have some chill time while he started some laundry.

My goal was to arise early (5AM) to get a head start on the day. I rolled out of bed around 5:30 - I wasn't too stressed because I could still make it to work by 7:30. Ha! At about 6:15 I'm grabbing my stuff and heading out to the car. Opening the car door let out a waft of nasty smells to which I attributed leaving LJ's diaper bag with a full sippy cup of milk in the car, festering for 7 days...

I should stop hear and tell you that when we left last Sunday, I totally got sidetracked and left LJ's daycare diaper bag in the car. This lead me to call my neighbor, DeAnna (who was watching our dogs) and ask her to double check and make sure that my car was locked. It wasn't so thankfully she locked it for me....so Sunday was a harried day of rushing around and I guess I got a little sidetracked - back to the nasty smell.

I grab the diaper bag with the full sippy cup of milk and run it into the house. Back to the car and the smell is still there. I toss my bags on the front passenger seat (figuring I'll drive with the windows down and let the car air out) and my hand grazes the seat. Um wait a sec, it's really cold. At a closer glance, it wasn't just cold, it was sopping wet. After tossing my bags out of the front seat, my initial reaction is to double check the windows...I unlocked the car with a key, so the door definately wasn't left open. A second look at the window and, nope, it's sealed shut. My eyes wander to the sun roof. Yup, the darn sunroof was partially open.

My sunroof was open during the torrential downpours that hit my house while we were out of town for an ENTIRE WEEK!!! Tornados passed over our area and the rain dumped into my car. There is a drought in Georgia and my guess is that my car could be wrung out and solve our county's water issues - ok, I'm exaggerating - but seriously, it was not a great way to start off the day.

So now Tim and I will be the proud owner of a super clean car as it is currently sitting in a warehouse after being taken apart and scrubbed down by a fabulous detailing company.

Note to self, always check the sunroof before leaving on vacation...Kind of reminds me of a Kalvin/Maguire rule - always check your pockets first when looking for keys:) I guess we all live and learn, right???

It's been almost a year!!

Wow! I can't believe it has been 6 months since I updated this site! Things have been crazy around here so I don't doubt that it has taken this long...

Since this is a blog dedicated to our Peanut Maybean, LJ, I guess I should start with him! We have entered the pre-"Big Boy" stage. Yes, our little one has learned how to climb out of his crib. Tim and I were sitting on the couch while LJ was sleeping (or so we wished) and suddenly we heard a "Ooooweee!" Tim and I looked at each other and then since there were no cries, no large thumps we figured it was just LJ playing. A few minutes later we heard some tap, tap, tapping...after a few minutes I looked at Tim and said, "Um, honey, there are no toys in LJ's crib that will make those noises." I crept to the door, peaked in and found LJ happily drumming on his window. Nice:)

LJ's favorite words right now are "Fooball", "Ball", "More", "Puhweah" (which works for please), "Daddy" (of course), "Papa" (for grandpas), "Mama" (only when he is upset or mad), "Sit" (Thankfully it sounds less and less like a certain other 4 letter word - fabulous story about that and a burning fireplace) which leads into "Hot" (for things he can't touch)...and a number of other various words...oh, and how can I forget "Dogee" (a word for dogs, and stuffed animals that have 4 legs!:)

LJ is growing and I can't believe were going to embark on potty training by the end of the summer (or attempt it). His daycare is still doing great and we've been trying to get a little more involved in his room - attending parties when we can. We were a little nervous early in the year because there were rumors that they might close due to so many parents losing their jobs and having to pull their kids from the school. Thankfully nothing like that has happened thus far! Below is a recent pic of LJ that a friend of mine took when I brought LJ to work with me. I had a few things to finish on a very hectic day. Thankfully my friend Bill had some basketballs in his office to help keep LJ occupied:)

Tim & I are in California right now, visiting wineries and enjoying a week of vacation. We miss LJ, but are loving this time to ourselves! We'll post some pics when I get back into town.
